Pilot View Inc. facilitates the creation of partnerships from the private or public sector to address issues pertaining to quality of life, economic development, and the environment.

Since its establishment in 1990, Pilot View has taken on many projects that address environmental issues finding funds in the millions of dollars to accomplish the task at hand.

Ararat River Phase VI & VII

Funders: North Carolina Clean Water Management Trust Fund
North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Water Resources
Location: Mt. Airy, NC (Surry County)
Problems: Extreme stream bank erosion along a section of the Ararat River is causing poor water
quality and aquatic habitat. Underutilized recreational opportunities associated with the Ararat River
due to water quality.
Goals: Increase community interaction. Reduce bank erosion through natural channel design
Create connectivity within the city and community. Protect river corridor and city infrastructure.
Improve water quality/ and Stream Bank stability. Greenway Development

South Fork Project

This measure is for a three year period involving several agencies to evaluate the effectiveness of various techniques used to control run-off into surface waters. The project will cover a 15,000 acre watershed, and will begin with a complete Index of Biological Integrity Study. The agencies will then implement their various measures, such as agricultural BMPs and stream bank stabilization, after which another IDI will be done to evaluate their success.

Bethabara Wetland Trail

The Historic Park of Bethabara has asked Pilot View, Inc. to help establish an educational wetland trail that would give the public an opportunity to appreciate the importance of wetland and its habitat.
